Worship Through Music at Calder Baptist Church
Chancel Choir
This main choir for Sunday morning worship offers choral selections ranging from classical to contemporary pieces. Four-part anthems, as well as solos, duets, and quartets, provide a rich layer to our services. The Chancel Choir utilizes the pipe organ and grand piano for varied accompaniment. Choir members rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. (following church supper). They work on music five weeks in advance which makes it easy to integrate new voices – all interested singers welcome! Choir robes make it easy to dress comfortably in the choir loft.
New Song
This small ensemble of adults primarily sings contemporary music on a seasonal or quarterly basis. The congregation particularly enjoys their combined work with the Youth Choir. New Song rehearses at 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoons and welcomes fresh voices!
Youth Choir
This dedicated group of youth (6th through 12th grade) participates in worship on a quarterly and seasonal basis, as well as leading the service on Youth Sunday each Spring. Parents appreciate this opportunity as crowded academic schedules make it increasingly difficult to fit in music education. The Youth Choir rehearses at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday evenings during the school year.
Bright Voices
This aptly named group of young singers (!st through 5th Grade) enjoy a mixture of singing, musical training, and fun activities. Bright Voices meets throughout the school year.
Sparklers
Our preschool group (ages 3-5) provides a strong introduction to choral singing and music education. Dedicated leaders create a warm environment with age-appropriate activities. The Music Makers always make a unique contribution when they offer their gifts in worship.
Handbell Choir
This group rings three-octaves at 11 stations. The tremendous variety of sounds generated by these ringers adds immeasurably to worship – whether as accompaniment to the Chancel Choir or as an instrumental element within a service. Playing handbells offers a unique opportunity to enhance worship. Learning how to ring requires less musical background than you might think – so take the plunge! This group rehearses at 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.
